Things to do with kids in Kingston Upon Thames

With a beautiful riverside to meander along, first class family friendly entertainment, and plenty of wet weather options, Kingston upon Thames has so much for the family to enjoy. You’ll also find green spaces to let off steam and great restaurants and cafes for when little legs get tired.

Sunny Walks in a Historic Market Town

Grab a bag of oats and head down to the tranquil riverside for a stroll, and to feed the host of ducks and swans. Especially appreciated by the birds during the winter months, in spring you might be lucky enough to see little fluffy ducklings and cygnets, sticking closely to their parents. Watch the paddle boarders, rowers and boaters navigate the waterways, or why not get out onto the river yourself, with a picnic on a GoBoat or trip on Turks Launches, and see it all close up.

If the children need to run off some steam head to Fairfield Children’s Playground or Canbury Gardens, grabbing a coffee from one of Kingston’s best coffee shops on the way.

Rainy days, fun days!

When the rain is threatening to dampen your mood, there are lots of fun indoor activities to be found in Kingston. Head to the Rotunda, where all you need for rainy day fun can be found under one roof!

Keep younger ones occupied at PICNIC, a play village where they can don a firepersons outfit, do their weekly shop (or be a cashier), put on a performance in the theatre, or cook and serve cakes, all while you sit back and relax in the café!

Young and old will enjoy taking an incredible journey from the safety of a cinema seat, popcorn in hand, at the Odeon. Or perhaps you fancy something more physical? With ramps and bumpers for younger clientele, kids as young as four can flex their muscles and get competitive at Tenpin Bowling.

For something a little different, and to get those brain cells working hard, help the Crazy Cat Lady find her missing cats at Kingston Escape Rooms. Children as young as 5 can take part in some of the games. Or, over in Eden Walk Shopping Centre, plan your escape from Blackbeard's ship (with his loot of course) at Escape Hunt Kingston, which has games for kids from age 8.

And of course, you can’t miss the world-class performances at the Rose Theatre, which offers shows for all ages and tastes in an intimate and welcoming venue.
