Women’s History Month | Key Events & Exhibitions in Kingston

March represents and recognises the amazing achievements of women throughout history in a variety of fields and industries, with March 8th standing as International Women’s Day.
This year, you can explore a variety of events that celebrate the important women of Kingston, and that remind us of significant historical figures, some dating back to the early 1900s.
Inspiring Talks & Exhibitions
1. International Women’s Day at Kingston University: 6th March, 10am – 1pm at Town House
Celebrate the achievements and contributions of women at this empowering event. Join for networking, a panel discussion about this year’s IWD theme ‘Accelerate Action‘ by guest speaker, Professor Margaret Watson, a photographic exhibition of women’s portraits and a collection of students’ films by women filmmakers that explore themes related to women’s experiences curated by KSA.
2. Inner Wheel Talks: 8th March, 2pm – 4pm at FUSEBOX
Join Inner Wheel in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025. Partake in light snacks and refreshments, whilst listening to inspirational speakers: Natalie O’Rourke MBE, Jeanne Vito, and Laura Smyth-Wiles MBE.
3. Silent No More: 8th March, 7pm – 9pm at KingsGate Church
Kingston Women’s Hub and Vistry Housing are proud to host a powerful and inspiring event for International Women’s Day. Bringing together survivors, advocates, community members and leaders, to stand united against Gender-Based Violence. Featuring Guest: Nina Aouilk – Advocate, Speaker, and Survivor.
Women’s History Month
1. Kingston Suffragettes:
Learn the history of Kingston’s well-know suffragettes, Kitty Marion, Clara Elizabeth Giveen and Olive Bartels, and their significant involvements with WSPU (Women’s Social and Political Union) in 1913 and 1914.
2. RBK art gallery
Kingston Heritage Service have curated an excellent virtual exhibition showing 100 years of Kingston Upon Thames as portrayed by women artists in their collection.
Local charities and organisations working towards empowering the women of Kingston
1. Kingston Women’s Centre
This local charity welcomes women from all backgrounds of all ages from the local community. They aim to provide a safe confidential space where you can talk about anything in your life that may be uncomfortable, confusing or painful without fear of judgement. They provide counselling on a weekly basis for up to two years.
2. Kingston Women’s Institute
Established in November 2022, WI Kingston’s aim is to provide a club for local women to meet, make new friends and enjoy activities in our local community.
3. Voices of Hope
A locally founded charity in Kingston Upon Thames with a focused reach into SW London. Voices of Hope are dedicated to bringing hope to individuals and the wider community, improving physical and mental health through community-based projects.
