Business Spotlight: Let’s get to know Old London Road Café
We caught up with Jodie from Old London Road for a mini Q&A - read on for an exclusive interview with the new independent cafe in Kingston!
This newly opened café is tucked away among Kingston’s historic Old London Road’s other independent gems. OLR, or Old London Road café, is an independent, cosy space open 7 days a week for breakfast and coffee, healthy lunch and delicious dinner.
Last week, we caught up with Jodie, who works at The Fighting Cocks, who gave us a glimpse into Old London Road cafe and how it came about.
How did Old London Road cafe start?
We have been looking at ways to cater hot food and drink to our Fighting Cocks’ customers, so when we saw that the owners of Jaxx cafe were retiring, we thought why not take over and re-brand it to ‘Old London Road Cafe’!
What do you offer?
We serve delicious paninis, bagels, sandwiches, cakes, and hot drinks, smoothies – so quite a lot! We also have board games for people to play with their friends, a quiet corner and fast wifi for remote workers too. We hope that the people who loved Jaxx will love us too!
We also do open mics nights every Thursday from 7:30 pm, so pop along and support your local artists!
What do you love about Kingston?
I moved to Kingston when I started University, and have lived around here for over 10 years because I love it so much! The summer is my favourite, I love the river culture and everyone hanging out there together. There’s also a fantastic music scene here, with The Fighting Cocks and Banquet Records putting on big names in the industry!
What’s your favourite shop in Kingston?
If you’re looking to buy unique artwork, you can’t go wrong with Not My Beautiful House at the Market Place! I love it because it has so many independent artists and it’s a great platform for artist to showcase their work. If you’re a music lover like me, Banquet Records is your go-to record shop. Banquet Records is an incredible record shop and Kingston wouldn’t be the same without it!
