After a year and a half in Kingston, Gillie & Marc's "Chimps Are Family" exhibition has concluded its residency in Kingston upon Thames.
After a year and a half in Kingston, Gillie & Marc’s “Chimps Are Family” exhibition has concluded its residency in Kingston upon Thames. This poignant and visually stunning collection has not only been a fun trail for families and friends but also a conversation starter on conservation and animal welfare.
The “Chimps Are Family” exhibition, created by internationally renowned artists Gillie and Marc, features life-sized bronze sculptures of chimpanzees engaged in human-like activities. These evocative works were strategically placed throughout Kingston upon Thames, turning the town into an open-air gallery.
The exhibition highlighted the close genetic and emotional ties between humans and chimpanzees, encouraging us to reflect on the importance of protecting these intelligent and endangered animals. Through partnerships with local conservation groups and educational programs, the exhibition has helped shed light on the critical threats facing these animals, including habitat loss and poaching.
While we’re sad to see the Chimps go, we’re excited to bring new events and activities to Kingston in the coming years!
